The Herma Heart Institute at Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee is the largest pediatric cardiac care center in the state and is a national leader in pediatric cardiology and heart surgery. 

The Herma Heart Institute (HHI) at Children’s Wisconsin is dedicated to providing comprehensive cardiac care, achieving some of the nation’s best outcomes for even the most complex heart conditions. From babies still in the womb to a rapidly growing population of adults living with congenital heart disease (CHD), the HHI diagnoses and treats patients from across the United States and beyond. 

CHD is the most common type of birth defect, affecting nearly 1 in 100 births each year. Understanding the root causes of CHD and creating personalized lifelong treatment plans requires a collaborative multidisciplinary approach – this is the cornerstone of their cardiac program.

The HHI takes immense pride in their collaborative culture, which allows them to provide comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centered care to kids and adults with CHD and their families year after year. In 2024, their teamwork and dedication enabled them to treat nearly 12,000 patients, perform more than 850 procedures and conduct more than 22,000 diagnostic tests.
